COMMUNITY & COMMUNICATION
Since the death of Mary Angela Whyte, longtime editor of the Druid Hills News, many of us have reflected on the void that she has left. Dedicated to the quarterly newspaper that many of you receive through the mail, Mary Angela knew the importance of getting the word out to the neighborhood.
She understood, as well, that a newspaper ties people together, gives residents the feeling – the knowledge – that they are part of something larger than themselves.
Our dictionary says that the word “communication” derives from the Latin communicare, meaning to share or make common. And the key root, muni, relates to words like community and munificence.
Here’s your chance to be truly munificent and make a big difference in your community! The Druid Hills News reaches more than 4,000 households and covers neighborhood news and issues, including profiles of local notables and feature stories about history, gardening, and much more.
We ask you to please consider stepping forward to help keep the Druid Hills News going.
Being the editor – or co-editor if you would like to work with a friend – is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the community.
We already have a printer and designer, a host of story ideas, a small stable of writers, and a group of supportive and knowledgeable advisors. The job requires someone with some spare time and expertise in writing, grammar, and editing. It is a challenge but extremely rewarding.
